27-29 march 2008
Thursday 27 march started cold. But at least it was dry. The first time on a race track with the Kawasaki ZX-6R! Both the bike and the track are new for me so I took it easy. The bike feels very nimble and the power isn't overwhelming. Ok, the front gets light under acceleration but it is very controllable. The learn the track a bit faster I followed a marshal in the second session. During that session the rain started.
Friday 28 march was rainy all day. I only did 4 laps because of lack of rain tires and confidence. Keeping the bike in one piece was more important.
Saturday 29 march was a sunny day. During the first session the track wasn't completely dry but it wasn't all that bad. At the start of the second session the track was completely dry. I was getting used to the bike and every lap I could shave a second of the lap time. The gearing seems a bit tall for this track, second gear at the last corner meant that similar bikes gained a couple of meters on me at acceleration.
For the 3rd session I decided to take the last corner in 1st gear. That went well. But on the 3rd lap the bike stopped completely and wouldn't restart. After the session I was brought back to the pits. A fuse had blown. After replacing that the bike fired up like nothing happened. During the 4th session the stopped again and after that I decided to call it a day because we couldn't find the fault.
So, in short, during 3 days in Val de Vienne I rode only a few laps.
