2014

Monday april 7th is the first race. After weeks of dry and warm weather the temperature drops to normal values and there is an occasional rain shower ... oh well...at least we can race again!

Monday august 11th was another ZAC raceday at Assen. There was quite a strong wind and I didn't expect very good laptimes. Laptimes were actually only going up since may of last year until the ZAC race of june this year. But today to my surprise I managed to score a new personal best at Assen with 2.01.974!

2013

Monday may 6th, first race this year. I improved my PR at Assen with almost 2 seconds! Report in Dutch can be found in the menu of here (race 1 2013)

And here it is ....

Monster 1100

In 2013 I will be racing with a new bike. The Kawasaki ER-6n is too slow for the ZAC and the piston of the MuZ Skorpion broke at the clubrace of 2012. The new bike will replace both.
As soon as the bike is in race trim there will be a better picture here.

In 2011 I will be competing in the Zomer Avond Competitie again with the ER-6n.

On the 24th, 25th and 26th of March I have been practising on the circuit of Val de Vienne in France. Get out on the track for the first time with the modified ER6. Highg compression pistons of JE and modified camshafts of Spears Racing should make the bike 'faster'. Not there yet because the important midrange has suffered a bit. Top end power has improved but a little higher up the rev range. I did have a lot of fun in Val de Vienne, revving the 2-cilinder till 9000-10000 revs. The weather was great and all practise sessions went well. At the en of day 2 I reached a laptime of 2:07.9. On the third day I didn't improve, my physical condition didn't let me ...

2010

In 2010 I will use the ER-6 for the ZAC. The ZX-6R is for sale.
The first race was on a wet and windy Assen on april 1st. 8th in practice (2nd rider without rain tyres). 12th and 11th in the races.

2009

1 July, ZAC at Zolder. Practice went really well, 18th place in the S1 class. The first race I was 16th. I started the second race from 15th place. Unfortunately after a couple of hundred metres it all went wrong because I braked too hard and fell. There was too much damage to the left footrest to be able to continue.

2008

Dahlemer Binz, 13 september 2008. MuZ Skorpion Sport.
2 rainy days in de German Eifel. At Dahlemer Binz airport there have been motorcycle races for 30 year. Even held in good weather I heard. This year the weather was bad. The races had to be stopped twice because of fog.

Zandvoort, 11 august 2008. Kawasaki ZX-6R, class S1.
Free practice: 2:13.600 (7th), qualifying practice: 2:13.337 (25th)
Race 1: 2:12.852 (25th)
Race 2: 2:13.079 (27th)

Assen, 25 august 2008. Kawasaki ZX-6R
5 hour endurance. 2:06 or 2:07 in practice.
During the practice start I broke the gear change linkage. I pushed the bike back from the Haarbocht and gave the transponder to the 2nd rider. We only lost 1 or 2 laps. Evert made a new linkage so I could ride the rest of the day.Our team ende in 27th place.

Because I can't ride in Assen on april 14th I will take part in the race at Zolder on the 30th of april. That means that I have to go to Eemshaven that same evening.

The practice days at Val de Vienne are behind us. It didn't go very well, see the report.

The ZAC race at Zolder went reasonably well with a 6th place in the S0 class. I did have a problem with noise though, eh, make that the track had a problem with my noise ;-(

My first SAM race at Eemshaven was quite successful. I finished in 6th place on my Skorpion.

2008 will be a busy year as far as racing is concerned. The usual amount of ZAC races will be held and there are a couple of SAM races that I want to do. The SAM is going strong this year, they even have a couple of races abroad. I haven't decided whether I will take part in the foreign races but I will take part in the dutch rounds.

I have planned a 3 day practice session in Val de Vienne, France, end of March. I will only take the Kawasaki there, so I can get used to it. The first ZAC race on the Kawasaki, in Assen, will take place 2 weeks after the practice in France. The first SAM race is on 1 May in Eemshaven, and that will be the first kilometers on the Skorpion this year.

2007
This year I have a tuned Skorpion. High compression piston and stag1 camshaft have raised the power to 56 hp at the rear wheel.
The first race was on 12 april, in Assen. The engine feels much stronger but I have to get used to riding on the track again. Still I managed a new PR for Assen: 2:14.202. After the first race I had lost a lot of coolant and decied not to take part in race 2.

The second race was on 21 mei, in Assen again. I had disassembled the engine again and cleaned everything and put it back together. That cured the coolant loss problem. Due to the big attendance practice and races were shortened. I am satisfied with 22nd and 24th places, setting a new PR in the process: 2:13.172.

9 and 10 june, Ducati Club Race. I was entered in the Ducati Open class, group B. In the first practice I managed 14th time with 2:12,622. In the second practice I took it easy and didn't better my time, I ended up 20th in the grid. I lost the usual amount of places at the start. After that I was able to stay around 27th place. In the last lap I betterd my lap time to 2:12,079, that was a lap with no traffic right in front of me.

20 june, Zolder. First time at Zolder, well known for it's noise restrictions. I got black flagged in the second practice session because of to much noise. I rode the races on a Suzuki SV (thank you Marcel!!!).

Monday 2 july, ZAC Endurance at Zandvoort. Because of noise problems with the Skorpion I decied to take the ER-6n ABS. I t went quite well, don't know the laptimes yet. We ended in 38th place of 42 teams

Practice on 16 july at Spa has been cancelled!

On 8 augustus I am going to do Level 1 of the California Superbike School, not in California but in Zandvoort.

Voorgaande jaren:

2003
After years and years of riding on the street and watching motorcycle racing I started racing myself. At the age of fourty!. In september of 2003 a (semi) collegue talked me into attending a track day at the Assen TT circuit. I thought that those track days were 'wild' but that was not the case. Everything went very civilized. I had bought a MuZ Skorpion Sport in april of 2003 and that bike is very suitable for the track. It has only 48 bhp so it doesn't have a high top speed but it is light and nimble.

2004
No track miles in 2004.

2005
On april 1st I attended a track day organized by CRT. I took the Skorpion again and met another Skorpion rider there! He was looking for a 4th team member for an enduracne race in may. I told him that I don't have a racing license and therefor can't join his team. But his question stayed on my mind and I actually thought of getting that license.
My fastest time that day was 2:04.358.

On the 30th of april and the 1st of may the 'Landelijke Motordagen (National motorcycle days) took place on the Assen circuit. On those days you can ride on the track, at 'slow' speed behind marshals showing the lines (so called toerrijden) or as fast as you like (so called Sterrijden). For the latter your bike gets equipped with a transponder for measuring lap times. At the end of the day you ge a certificate with your best time. On saturday I had an appointment to go toerrijden with a couple of people from the Dutch monoconnection. After that I applied for Sterrijden on sunday. On Sunday there were more single cilinder bike at Assen, 2 MuZ Skorpions and 1 Yamaha SZR. I did a best lap time of 1:56.750. More than 7 seconds faster compared to the CRT-day on the 1st of april. I think it was that day that I decided to go race in de Zomeravond Competitie (ZAC) (club races). To be able to do that I need a race license so I decided to do the TOMS course that is necessary to get the license.

The TOMS course was on the 18th of july. I had to get up at 5 o'clock to be in Zandvoort on time! I have bought a VW Transporter to get the bike to the circuits. Therefor all things you don't really need on the bike could be removed (lights, mirrors, stands). It was a sunny day (after long periods of rain) and quite hot so that meant sweating a lot (but that is much better than being wet from the rain). The riding went pretty well. Zandvoort is a completely different circuit compared to Assen. It is undulated and therefor has some blind corners. In the paddock area were all kinds of exercises for braking, looking and starting (doing practice starts). One of the exercises was a slalom. The lasr lap of that slalom was timed and I was fastest on my Skorpion! I 'passed' and can now apply for a race license!

Exactly one month after the TOMS course the first ZAC race is at Assen on august 18th.
My last race of 2005: ZAC Endurance (2.5 hours) at Zandvoort in september 7th.

2006
12 April, the first ZAC race takes place on the new circuit of Assen. It is about 700 meters longer than the old national circuit and is the same for all national an international events.

2 May, track day organized by raceshop.nl aka circuitrijden.nl aka road race promotion

6/7 May, Ducati Club Race. The biggest amateur 4-stroke race event of Europe. This is my first year as a contender after having been there as a spectator for many years.

24 July, Oschersleben (D), my first race abroad for the ZAC.

15 August, ZAC Assen.

18 September, ZAC Assen.
