GSA Nürburgring
As compensation for the cancelling of the Fischereihafen Rennen can all SAM single cilinder riders take part in the GSA supermono races. The first one for me was at the Nürburgring. Is was a one day event, with 2 practices and 2 races. Paperwork and scrutineering could be done on Saturday evening.
1st practice
The weather is quite good, sunny but with a strong wind. The GSA Supermonos ride together with the GMC Supermoto guys. In total that are 40 bikes. On the Nürburgring riding together with the supermotos isn't a problem. With a lap of 1:56.880 I was in 24th place.
2nd practice
I get used to the track very quickly and amage a 1:52.812, good for 21st place on the grid, 6th if you only count the supermonos. In 16th place was Jan Muijsers with his Gilera Saturno (1:49.655) and in 22nd place was Frank Schouren with his RGV-DR (1:53.020).
1st race
The start went reasonably well, I did loose some places but could make up for that in the first couple of turns. Together with Frank Schouren I was behinf a supermoto rider called Dirk Poscher. he must have felt our 'pressure' because he crashed coming out of the Mercedes arena. After a couple of laps I was able to outbrake Frank before the NGK-chicane but on the straight he passed me again. After a mega rear wheel slide I exiting the Kuhmo turn I decided to stay behind Frank. I finished in 20th place, fastest lap was 1:51.923.
2nd race
After 3 laps in the 2nd race I started making little mistakes, probably due to fatigue. I didn't take too may risks from that point and finish 19th. Fastest lap was 1:52.947, indeed quite slow compared to the first race.
I had good fun and want to do more races with the GSA. So I will go to Hockenheim at the end of august.
